This weekend we found ourselves back at a favorite historic site, Fort Laurence, Bolivar, Ohio.
Our visit began in the auditorium with a first-person reenactor portraying the infamous Simon Girty. As it turns out, the facts of Girty’s life are as incredible as the folklore.
Following the speaker series event, we continued outside on a journey back to 1778. Reenactors were positioned throughout the site, each representing a man or women who was present 78-79 – including Simon Girty and John Gibson. The walk came to an end with a rather odd character, Abraham Lincoln. Much to our surprise, old Abe was a descendant of a man who helped build Fort Laurence.
