Quaker Square’s Oatmeal Cookies

3/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 cups uncooked oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda


Preheat Oven to 350°

Beat together shortening, sugars, egg, water, and vanilla until creamy.

In a separate bowl, combine baking soda, oats, flour, and salt and mix well.

Combine wet and dry ingredients and stir well.

Drop by rounded teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet.

Bake for 12 to 15 minutes.

Makes about 5 dozen small or 3 dozen large cookies
